Each month we select at random a new design created by our Head of Design, Beverley
Pemberton. She focuses on the clients wish list, the size and shape of the plot, the planning
scenario and the available budget and combines these key elements into a viable design.
Upside-down house with sea views
The challenge was to design a replacement dwelling of around 250 mē with a distinct flavour of the beach side houses found in New England, USA. It was a pre-requisite of the brief that the principal living areas are located on the first floor to take advantage of the outstanding views of the sea.
The ground floor features four bedrooms all with private bathrooms. I decided to show the master suite at the front but the layout could easily be re-jigged if you prefer your own bedroom overlooking the garden.
The main lounge and family room face the sea and include large feature bay windows and vaulted ceilings. A generous dining room with a balcony links these rooms. The home office includes a sitting area and shares a second balcony with the main lounge. Offices never have quite enough space and so I added a door into the garage roof for additional storage.
The design measures 250 mē internally (excluding garage)
